Received a few new handicap things!

Hey! So I haven’t given any new updates on some of the other stuff I have going on around me. I got a new office mate named Katie last week. As you do with new coworkers (new to me but not new to the factory) I have been discussing some of the things I am trying to do with this website. I realize when I talk about it that there are a lot of words and a lot of ideas spread out in a lot of different places. I feel like I talk about goals in my blog that I don’t necessarily put on my goals page and maybe stuff on my goals page that I haven’t actually discussed. I would almost like to review some of this and maybe present it a little better.

I wanted to give an update on the ramp at my aunt and uncle’s house. Last time I mentioned it, I believe, was when it got put in. I feel that basically all I said was that it made it easier. After using it for a few weeks, I am absolutely loving it and makes me feel more welcome there (not that I wasn’t before, but it is hard to explain how it changes it). It lets me come and go like everyone else does, and that really does mean a lot.

I haven’t mentioned it yet, but my parents bought a newer handicap van. The old one worked well for what they paid for it but it didn’t work quite as well as the new one does. For one thing, in this van, the front seat can come out and I can wheel up into the passenger seat area. This allows for me to actually be able to see out while we are going down the road. It also allows for dad and I to go places and take the van and be able to talk to each other. In the other one, it almost seemed like you were on your own and if it was just the 2 of us it was a little hard to hear each other to have a conversation. I am glad to have such supporting parents!

The nice lady that they bought the van from also gave us some other handicap things. She has recently lost her husband and I know what she is going through must be difficult. My heart goes out to her. She had things that she was already planning to donate to people that could use them. She donated a few things for grandpa to use as well as things that mom uses to take care of grandpa. She donated a power rehab bike that both of us can use. I have used it a few times now and I wish that I had it a few years ago. It probably would have allowed for me to walk longer and maybe even transfer longer. With the way my condition is (it gets worse as I get older), I don’t foresee it allowing me to regain those abilities. My goal with it at this juncture is to hopefully maintain the abilities that I have now to transfer.

One of the other things the nice lady gave me was an off-road powerchair. Now the batteries are bad in it and it is definitely a heavy duty chair. I feel like it will be more off-road than the chair that I use all the time. I am not sold on it being an off-road chair that will work the way I would intend to use an off-road chair. I will have to try it at some point and see how well it will work. The other big thing she gave me was a shower chair. I have looked at these a few times and have kind of wanted one. It is a manual chair and if I am not mistaken could be used to get in and out of a pool as well.

My last thought for this post is about going to Lake of the Ozarks over the weekend. We actually went to get some truck parts for dad in Eldon, but went by there since we were so close. We stumbled into a car cruise in and there were a few nice cars there. My truck was dirty but we left the door on it up for a bit as it still turns heads when people see it. Seeing all the boats and people fishing makes me want to look into how to do that again. I haven’t been on a boat in 10 – 15 years and haven’t been fishing in probably 20 years. Maybe I should add that to my goals of something I would like to do again.

Thanks for reading!
