So I am still trying to figure this whole blog thing out. I have been trying to make it about only handicap related thoughts. I think I am going to have to change this approach somewhat to more what is on my mind. Most of it will still be handicap related. I feel some of it will be repeating myself, but it is because it is what is on my mind. The last blog post took me a week to write. It is not because it was that hard, as much as I have been busy with other stuff. A lot of stuff is going on right now and it is stressing me out. I am like anyone else in that I have been trying to figure it all out.
I realized a few days ago something new about myself. I am in the best mental state when I am creating or trying to figure out how to design something handicap related. Yesterday I got thinking about how to make a regular car handicap accessible to be able to race it. I know there is a good chance that it will never happen, but thinking about it helps keeps me sane. Dad owns (if I am remembering this right) a 76 Nova SS, that has been sitting since 1984. Now I know they are not the most sought after car, but for this mental exercise I can at least physically look closer at it if I wanted too. I also doubt it is going anywhere anytime soon. My thought is that you should be able to make it to where the driver door would be able to come straight out away from the car and then down with a platform on the bottom of it. You then would have to have a custom race seat that was on wheels, so that you could run up on the platform and go in the car. If you were to also make custom manual hand controls, it all just might work. You would still have to do the standard stuff of adding a roll cage and probably tub it to put wide tires under the back. Of course a big motor is a must and probably a powerglide transmission behind it as they work better for racing from what I have been told. It could be fun, but like I said, its more of a dream than anything.
I ordered some pillow block bearings for my stand up chair today. Basically this is the bearings that will allow for me to add the wider front wheels to it. I haven’t shared the pictures of the progress of it, or even the start of it for that matter, but I will soon. It has been too cold to work on this and I hit a bit of a roadblock getting studs to work with the adapters I made to be able to put the tires on it. Also, sometimes it is difficult to make time to do some of these projects, but I really need to start finishing some more of them.
I updated my sponsorship page last week to talk more about what I am hoping to accomplish with it. I felt like I had it listed like I was only interested in money to go race. That is definitely not the case! I have always went back and forth on whether to call it sponsorship, or whether it is just the people that help me along the way. To me, time and resources is also sponsoring me. I currently don’t have all that much money invested in my website. I am kind of in a holding pattern of trying to decide whether to invest more or hold back. I am worried that I would be spending money to it to grow it and won’t get any return back on it. I won’t lie, I am kind of hopeful that someone will decide to add a little money or expertise to this venture and really help me get it off the ground. I know that I will add some more money to it in the future, once I have some of the things that I need (like my handicap bathroom). The plan is to update a few of the other pages at some point soon to correct some of the grammatical errors. I recruited someone who did a little better in English class than I did. I don’t really plan on changing the blog stuff that much. I want it to feel personal and more how I actually talk.
The last thing in what has turned into another long post. I would like some comments or feedback on what I am posting. I get data where it shows that people are clicking on it and reading it (565 page views in about a month). It doesn’t get many likes or shares on Facebook, (which doesn’t really bother me), but it also means less feedback. I am going to try to add a Facebook page for this today as well. I have had a few comments on not seeing my posts that I have added something and the easiest way to fix this problem is to sign up to get emailed when I add something. I do this website pretty much by myself, so I can promise you that I won’t be just giving your email address out to everyone. Let me know what is working (and what is not) so that I can improve what I am doing! Thanks for reading!!
